Flipkart To Launch Bengaluru Food Delivery by Mid-August on 10-11% Commission
New Delhi, Aug. 3 -- Flipkart is set to enter India's online food delivery market by mid-August, beginning with a pilot rollout in Bengaluru and a restaurant commission model of 10-11%. The Walmart-owned e-commerce company is betting that lower commissions can help it attract restaurant partners in a market long dominated by Swiggy and Zomato.
This latest expansion is beyond e-commerce and quick commerce and comes at a time when restaurants are increasingly questioning the economics of existing food delivery platforms. Rather than competing first on consumer discounts, Flipkart appears to be using merchant economics as its primary entry strategy.
