AI Coding Could Cost More Than Developers by 2028, Gartner Warns
New Delhi, June 24 -- The growing adoption of AI coding assistants may create a new cost challenge for enterprises, with spending on AI coding tools projected to surpass the average developer's salary by 2028, according to Gartner.
The analyst firm attributed the trend to rising consumption of large language model (LLM) tokens and the industry's shift from seat-based licensing to usage-based pricing models. Tokens are the units of data processed by AI models, and their consumption directly influences the cost of AI-powered coding tools.
