Mumbai, Sept. 24 -- The key equity benchmarks traded with major cuts in morning trade. The Nifty traded below the 23,250 mark. Private bank shares declined after advancing in the past trading session.

At 10:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, tanked 674.80 points or 0.90% to 74,147.74. The Nifty 50 index lost 224.95 points or 0.95% to 23,224.70.

In the broader market, the BSE 150 MidCap Index declined 1.01% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index fell 0.51%.

The market breadth was weak. On the BSE, 1,415 shares rose and 2,369 shares fell. A total of 257 shares were unchanged.
