Mumbai, Oct. 8 -- The key equity benchmarks traded with modest cuts in morning trade, weighed down by weak global cues, sustained foreign selling and elevated crude oil prices. The Nifty traded below the 22,500 level. Realty shares extended losses for the third consecutive trading session.

At 10:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, tanked 384.72 points or 0.53% to 72,253.98. The Nifty 50 index lost 141.45 points or 0.63% to 22,462.55.

In the broader market, the BSE 150 MidCap Index declined 0.81% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index fell 0.85%.

The market breadth was weak. On the BSE, 1,253 shares rose and 2,496 shares fell. A total of 248 shares were unchanged.
