Sensex jumps 233 pts; private bank stocks in demand
Mumbai, June 9 -- The domestic equity benchmarks traded with modest gains in mid-afternoon trade. Nifty traded tad above the 23,200 level. Private bank shares advanced after declining in the past trading session.
At 14:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, jumped 232.58 points or 0.32% to 73,756.84. The Nifty 50 index rose 82.95 points or 0.34% to 23,202.50.
The broader market outperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index gained 0.88% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index added 0.96%.
The market breadth was strong. On the BSE, 2,602 shares rose and 1,512 shares fell. A total of 192 shares were unchanged.
