Mumbai, Sept. 9 -- The key equity barometers traded with significant losses in the early afternoon trade as elevated crude oil prices continued to weigh on the macroeconomic outlook, while a weakening rupee further dampened investor sentiment amid renewed inflation concerns. The Nifty traded below the 23,500 mark.

Realty shares declined for fourth consecutive trading sessions.

At 12:25 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex declined 584.62 points or 0.77% to 74,992.96. The Nifty 50 index lost 135.05 points or 0.57% to 23,500.05.

In the broader market, the BSE 150 MidCap Index declined 0.37% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index dropped 0.41%.
