Sensex, Nifty trade with major losses; private bank shares decline
Mumbai, July 20 -- The domestic equity benchmarks traded with major losses in morning trade as Brent crude oil surged above $90 per barrel amid escalating US-Iran tensions, raising concerns over inflation, higher import costs and global economic uncertainty.
The Nifty traded below the 24,250 mark. Private Bank shares declined after advancing for previous trading session.
At 10:30 ST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, tanked 468.58 points or 0.60% to 77,682.87. The Nifty 50 index fell 110.60 points or 0.45% to 24,223.70.
The broader market outperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index rose 0.40% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index added 0.37%.
