Mumbai, Aug. 17 -- The domestic equity benchmarks traded with modest cuts in the mid-afternoon trade. The Nifty traded below the 24,350 mark. Consumer durables shares advanced after declining in the past two trading sessions.

At 14:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex tanked 212.72 points or 0.27% to 77,797.27. The Nifty 50 index lost 37 points or 0.15% to 24,329.

In the broader market, the BSE 150 MidCap Index rose 0.23% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index fell 0.03%.

The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 1,967 shares rose and 2,403 shares fell. A total of 252 shares were unchanged.

Buzzing Index:

The Nifty Consumer Durables index fell 0.09% to 40,575.20. The index jumped 1.21% in the past two trading sessions.
