Mumbai, Aug. 24 -- The domestic equity benchmarks traded with modest cuts in the mid-afternoon trade. The Nifty traded below the 24,200 level. Media shares extended losses for the second consecutive trading session.

At 14:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, declined 284.15 points or 0.37% to 77,256.68. The Nifty 50 index lost 86.50 points or 0.36% to 24,165.50.

The broader market outperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index fell 0.06% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index shed 0.04%.

The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 1,997 shares rose and 2,331 shares fell. A total of 277 shares were unchanged.
