Mumbai, Nov. 3 -- The domestic equity benchmarks traded with major gains in the mid-afternoon trade. The Nifty traded above the 23,650 mark. Private bank shares advanced after declining in the past trading session.

At 14:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex jumped 862.03 points or 1.14% to 76,548.12. The Nifty 50 index rose 243.55 points or 1.04% to 23,684.35.

In the broader market, the Nifty MidCap 150 Index gained 0.60% and the Nifty SmallCap 250 Index added 0.52%.

The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 2,454 shares rose and 1,840 shares fell. A total of 222 shares were unchanged.

The Nifty Private Bank index rose 1.78% to 27,496.80. The index shed 0.14% in the past trading session.
