Nifty reclaims 23,550 level; European markets edge lower
Mumbai, Sept. 9 -- The benchmark indices pared some losses in afternoon trade. Elevated crude oil prices continued to weigh on the macroeconomic outlook, while a weakening rupee further dampened investor sentiment amid renewed inflation concerns. The Nifty traded tad above the 23,550 mark.
At 12:25 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex declined 376.56 points or 0.50% to 75,201.02. The Nifty 50 index lost 80.30 points or 0.34% to 23,554.80.
In the broader market, the BSE 150 MidCap Index declined 0.06% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index dropped 0.32%.
The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 1,823 shares rose and 2,395 shares fell. A total of 243 shares were unchanged.
