Mumbai, Nov. 4 -- The key equity benchmarks traded with modest gains in the morning trade. The Nifty traded above the 23,850 mark. FMCG shares extended gains for the second consecutive trading session.

At 10:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, jumped 124.96 points or 0.16% to 77,042.81. The Nifty 50 index rose 39.30 points or 0.13% to 23,851.15.

In the broader market, the BSE 150 MidCap Index gained 0.78% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index added 0.87%.

The market breadth was strong. On the BSE, 2,605 shares rose and 1,178 shares fell. A total of 251 shares were unchanged.
