Mumbai, July 9 -- Life insurance companies in India reported new business premium rose 13.07 per cent in June to Rs 46,490.53 crore compared to the Rs 41,117.30 crore a year earlier.

Market leader, the State-owned Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) posted a muted NBP growth of 1.2 per cent at Rs 27,724.62 crore compared to Rs 27,395 crore during the same period last year.

Private life insurers premium income clocked 36.76 per cent jump to Rs 18,765.90 crore from Rs 13,722.29 crore.

The number of policies or schemes sold by all life insurance companies in June was 2,151,880; this figure stood at 2,006,322 during the same period the previous year.
