Mumbai, Oct. 28 -- The United States national debt climbed to $40.5 trillion, according to the Treasury Department's latest daily report on Tuesday, marking another increase in the federal government's borrowing.

The debt has risen by $500 billion in roughly two months, surpassing the $40 trillion threshold reached in August.
