Mumbai, Sept. 15 -- The annual inflation rate in the United States stood at 3.4% in August, unchanged from July, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said on Friday. Month-on-month, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.4%, up from a 0.1% increase in July.
The food index gained 0.1% on a monthly basis and 2.7% year-on-year. The energy index rose 2.1% in August and 16.3% compared with the same month a year earlier, with gasoline prices jumping 3.9% over the month.
The core inflation rate, excluding energy and food, increased 0.3% month-on-month and 2.4% year-on-year.
