Mumbai, Sept. 17 -- Housing starts in the United States came in at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,275,000 in August, falling 2.6% compared to the revised reading from the month prior, the US Census Bureau said in its report on Thursday. Year-over-year, the figure declined 1.2%. Compared to July, single-family housing starts rose 7.6% to stand at 918,000 in August. The August rate for units in buildings with five units or more was 344,000. Privately-owned housing units authorized by building permits fell 2.7% monthly but rose 3.5% annually to 1,394,000. The housing completions dipped 11.9% month-on-month and 27.1% year-over-year to 1,128,000, while single-family completions dropped 10.4% to 816,000.
