Mumbai, May 29 -- Japan's industrial production increased 0.8% month-on-month in April 2026, reversing a 0.4% decline in March and marking the first expansion since January, supported by resilient overseas demand and improving domestic manufacturing activity. Growth was mainly driven by a 5.3% surge in general-purpose and business-oriented machinery along with a 3.5% rise in electrical machinery and electronics equipment production, while motor vehicle output declined 2.4%. On an annual basis, industrial production advanced 2.3%, extending growth for a fifth consecutive month despite ongoing risks from Middle East tensions and higher energy costs.
