Mumbai, Sept. 18 -- Japan's food-price inflation moderated to 3.1% year-on-year in August from 3.5% in July, marking its slowest pace since July 2024. The deceleration was broad-based across vegetables, fruit, dairy products, meats and prepared foods, while cereal prices fell for a fourth consecutive month. Rice prices declined a substantial 15.7% year-on-year, recording their steepest drop since April 2005. However, price pressures remained elevated in fish and seafood, beverages, and oils and seasonings, suggesting that underlying food-cost pressures remain uneven.
