Mumbai, Sept. 29 -- The consumer confidence indicator in both the euro area and the entire European Union worsened in September, the European Commission's final report showed on Tuesday, confirming the preliminary data. Euro area consumer confidence fell to negative 16.5 points in the ninth month of the year, down from negative 15.5 the month before. Across the whole EU, it dropped to negative 15.8 points from negative 15 in August.
The Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) retreated by 0.4 points to 97.9 in the EU and by 0.5 points to 97.9 in the euro area, due to "lower confidence reported by consumers, despite higher confidence in industry and, to a smaller degree, construction."
