Mumbai, Aug. 27 -- The Supreme Court, in its order dated 19 August 2026, allowed BBTCL's interlocutory application seeking recall of the observation made in its 29 May 2026 order.

The May order had recorded that lease rent of Rs 4,655.24 crore remained to be recovered from BBTCL. The company subsequently challenged the observation, stating that the amount had neither been formally demanded nor finally determined.

The Singampatti tea estate is located in the Manjolai hills of Tamil Nadu's Tirunelveli district, within the Western Ghats. BBTCL held about 8,373.57 acres under a 99-year lease granted by the erstwhile Singampatti zamindar in 1929.
