Benchmarks trade near the day's high; metal shares tumble on profit booking
Mumbai, Sept. 21 -- The domestic equity barometers traded with strong gains and hit fresh intraday high in afternoon trade, supported by easing crude oil prices and positive global cues. The Nifty hovered above 23,450 level. Metal shares, however, snapped their three-day rising streak.
At 14:27 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex advanced 676.35 points or 0.91% to 74,971.31. The Nifty 50 index added 110 points, or 0.47%, to 23,456.40.
In the broader market, the BSE 150 Midcap index rose 0.19% while the BSE 250 Smallcap index gained 0.18%.
The market breadth was mostly even. On the BSE, 2,183 shares were trading in green, while 2,201 shares were trading in red. A total of 268 shares were unchanged.
