Mumbai, Sept. 26 -- Balrampur Chini Mills has been awarded a Rs 75 crore grant by the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, for establishing a 100 TPA Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) co-polymer R&D facility.

The grant has been awarded under the government's BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment & Employment) initiative. According to the company, the facility will support the development of advanced bio-based materials and indigenous biomanufacturing capabilities.
