Mumbai, March 9 -- Summer sowing is witnessing a decline this season due to weak trends in rice acreage. Acreage under summer crops, which will end by May, stood at 26.53 lakh hectares (lh) as on February 27, down around 3% compared to year ago period, media reports stated. Area under the key crop paddy was down 7% on year at 21.80 lh while nutri/coarse cereals area was up 12% at 1.88lh. Area under summer pulses also jumped 11.65% on year at 1.15 lh. Oilseeds area in this summer season stood at 1.69 lh, up 34% on year.
