Mumbai, Aug. 31 -- India's total kharif crop area sown was recorded at 1,071.10 lakh hectares as of August 28, marking a drop of 1.70% compared to the same period last year. Area under key crop paddy or Rice is 3.35% lower than last year at 414.10 lakh hectares. Total pulse sowing has reached 115.05 lakh hectares, up 1.22% on year. Tur acreage stood at 44.59 lakh hectares, up marginally on the day while area under Urad increased to 24.69 lakh hectares, up around 11.70%. The area under coarse cereals fell 2.31%. Maize acreage is down 4.14% at 89.99 lakh hectares. Oilseed sowing is almost steady on year. Soybean, the major oilseed crop, has been sown across 121.72 lakh hectares, down marginally on year.
