Nairobi, June 2 -- Kenya's orchestral culture has long been associated with wealthy expatriates and older audiences. But today, a younger generation is quietly filling concert halls, sustaining the scene and reshaping perceptions of who classical music is for.

Twenty-five-year-old Beverly Moraa has attended five orchestral performances so far, and she is not about to stop.Her first encounter with orchestral music came while she was still in high school.

"I took music classes in high school, and we were encouraged to attend Nairobi Orchestra's performances to get a feel of classical music," she says. "So I attended one, and they were playing Bach. It was so beautiful."
