Nairobi, Oct. 28 -- When Keithen Muvira returned to Kenya after playing professional basketball in China, he was looking for a way to start over.

The former player initially turned to smartphones, importing devices from China for about Sh8,000 each and selling them for Sh22,000. The business made money, but it did not give him the 'sense of community' he yearned for.
