CBK seeks power to raid, oust top bosses at payment firms
Nairobi, Oct. 1 -- The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) is seeking sweeping powers over digital payment companies, including raiding their premises without notice and ousting top executives if the firms breach the law and run into financial difficulties.
The National Payment System Bill, 2026, gives CBK officers full access to these companies' premises to inspect records, interview employees and access computers and data where necessary to establish compliance with the law.
