Srinagar, Sept. 17 -- There are moments when we attend a memorial not merely to remember someone who is no longer with us, but to ask ourselves what remains of that person in us. I found myself thinking about this while attending a memorial lecture held on the death anniversary of a senior doctor whose life represented something increasingly rare: simplicity without display, conviction without noise, and empathetic service without the constant need for an audience.The hall was prepared as such occasions usually are. Posters announced the event. Lights illuminated the stage. Microphones were tested. Chairs were arranged. A guest lecture was scheduled. Citations were prepared.
