Veterinary Students Across J&K Protest Over Stipend, Seek Revision of Internship Allowance
Srinagar, Sept. 7 -- Veterinary students across Jammu and Kashmir staged a peaceful protest on Monday, demanding an increase in their internship stipend and removal of what they described as a significant disparity with veterinary institutions elsewhere in the country. The protest was organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Veterinary Students Association (JKVSA), representing students of SKUAST-Jammu and SKUAST-Kashmir. The association said it has been pursuing the demand for nearly three years. According to the students, veterinary interns at both universities currently receive Rs.6,000 per month for six months and Rs.9,000 per month for the remaining six months, with Rs.3,000 of the latter amount contributed by ICAR.
