Srinagar, Oct. 5 -- The birth of the new science, namely "SOCIOLOGY" as a formal academic discipline during the French Revolution was not a gradual process. Instead, it can be understood as a response to a profound social crisis, a "rescue mission for humanity" born directly out of the ashes, chaos, sorrow, and injustice experienced by many societies. The French revolution (1789) is considered one of the major historical events that contributed to the emergence of sociology as a discipline. It brought dramatic changes to French society and challenged the traditional political, economic, and social order.
