Srinagar, July 12 -- Raja Mehdi Ali Khan was a writer, poet and lyricist of the Hindi film world. He was born on 23 September 1915 in Wazirabad British India He was only 4 years old when he lost his father's affection. He was raised by his mother, who was a poet. He was the nephew of the famous journalist and poet Maulana Zafar Ali Khan. During his first job at All India Radio in Delhi, Raja Mehdi also met Saadat Hasan Manto, who worked there. It was at Manto's urging that Raja Mehdi moved to Bombay to work in films. After a short stint as an actor and dialogue writer, Mehdi got the opportunity to write lyrics for the film Do Bhai (1947).
