Mushk Budji faces market crunch
Anantnag, Aug 18, Aug. 19 -- Kashmir's famed aromatic rice variety Mushk Budji, which secured a Geographical Indication (GI) tag in 2023, is facing a serious market crisis, with farmers reporting a sharp fall in prices, weak demand and large quantities of unsold produce. Farmers in Sagam, a traditional hub of Mushk Budji cultivation in Anantnag, said the expansion of the crop into areas they consider unsuitable for maintaining its distinctive quality has affected its premium identity and market value.Once fetching Rs.20,000-25,000 per quintal, premium Mushk Budji is now reportedly selling for just Rs.10,000-15,000 per quintal.
