Srinagar, August 4, Aug. 4 -- Jammu and Kashmir has recorded more than 35 cloudburst incidents so far this year, claiming around 31 lives and causing widespread damage to residential houses, roads, bridges and other public infrastructure across the Union Territory. Official figures indicate that at least 22 cloudbursts occurred between June 1 and mid-July. However, continued spells of heavy rainfall in the second half of July and early August resulted in several additional incidents, taking the overall number beyond 35. The deaths have primarily been linked to cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides triggered by intense rainfall, with the Jammu division reporting the highest number of fatalities.
