Milad: A Message of Mercy
Srinagar, Aug. 20 -- Eid Milad-un-Nabi, also known as Mawlid al-Nabi, is observed by many Muslims on the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar, to remember the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). For millions of believers, it is less about outward celebration and more about remembrance, reflection, prayer, charity and renewing commitment to the values he embodied. The word Mawlid derives from the Arabic root associated with birth. But the significance of the occasion goes far beyond marking a date.
