Govt issues fresh directives on forest rights, encroachment
Jammu, Aug 12, Aug. 13 -- The government on Wednesday issued a fresh set of guidelines to streamline the processing of forest rights claims while simultaneously cracking down on unauthorised occupation of forest land. The circular issued by the Forest, Ecology and Environment Department, reiterates that all actions concerning forest land must strictly comply with the Indian Forest Act, 1927, and the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006."It is imperative to maintain an appropriate balance between the protection, conservation and sustainable management of forests and the recognition and settlement of legitimate forest rights," the circular stated.The directive comes in the wake of a...
