Srinagar, Oct. 3 -- Some leaders belong to history; a few continue to speak to the conscience of every generation. Mahatma Gandhi belongs to the latter. Gandhi Jayanti is therefore not merely an occasion to garland statues and repeat familiar phrases. It is a moment to examine whether truth, non-violence, compassion and human dignity still have a place in the way we live. Gandhi's greatest strength was the simplicity of his message and the difficulty of practising it. He placed truth at the centre of public and personal life.
