Ganderbal, April 27, April 28 -- The court of Principal, District and Sessions Judge in Ganderbal has upheld the compensation awarded for land acquired in Safapora during 2002-2003, rejecting claims by landowners who had sought a substantial increase in the payout. The dispute centered on compensation fixed at around Rs.90,000 per kanal by the authorities, which the petitioners challenged as inadequate, arguing that the actual market value at the time ranged between Rs.3.5 lakh and Rs.4.5 lakh per kanal.The petitioners also alleged that proper notice was not served before acquisition and sought not only enhanced compensation but also government employment for one member of each affected family.The court, however, found that the petitioner...
