Education Beyond Exams
Srinagar, Sept. 15 -- A few days ago, while watching students prepare for their examinations, I found myself thinking about a question that we rarely stop to ask: after spending so many years in school, what exactly are we preparing our children for? Books were open, notebooks were filled with questions and answers, and the usual pressure of examinations was visible on young faces. There is, of course, nothing wrong with examinations. They are an important part of education. They teach discipline, preparation and perseverance.
