Aizawl, Aug 6, Aug. 7 -- In a major blow to cross-border smuggling networks, the Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Customs Department, Aizawl, seized 22,400 kilograms of smuggled areca nuts worth approximately Rs.1.56 crore in Mizoram's Saitual district and apprehended two individuals. According to officials, the operation was carried out on August 4 at Kawlbem in Saitual district, based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of contraband through the border region.During the operation, joint teams intercepted two goods carrier trucks and recovered 320 sacks of areca nuts weighing 22,400 kilograms.The seized consignment has an estimated market value of Rs.1.56 crore, officials said.Two persons allegedly involved ...
