New Delhi, Sept. 17 -- The United Kingdom and the United States plan to connect two specialised artificial intelligence and high-performance computing platforms to accelerate fusion energy research.

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) and the U.S. Department of Energy's Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) signed a Joint Declaration of Intent at the Global Fusion Policy Summit in London on September 14, 2026.

The proposed collaboration, called the SUNRISE-STELLAR-AI Federation, would link UKAEA's SUNRISE supercomputer with PPPL's STELLAR-AI platform. The systems are not yet fully connected.
