India, July 3 -- Prof. Umesh V. Waghmare, President of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bengaluru, has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Science & Technology (DST) by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.A distinguished theoretical physicist, Prof. Waghmare graduated with the Institute Silver Medal and B.Tech in Engineering Physics from IIT Bombay (1990). He earned his Ph.D. from Yale University (1996) and completed postdoctoral research at Harvard University (1996-2000).

He worked as a post-doctoral research associate in physics department at Harvard University before joining Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research in 2000, where he is presently a Professor in the Theoreti...
