Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology Dr Jitendra Singh has announced the launch of India's first Engineering Biology Bachelor of Science course. He described it as an important step towards creating an independent and sovereign biotechnology ecosystem capable of meeting the long-term scientific, healthcare and economic aspirations of the country.

Speaking at the launch of the roadmap for "Making India a Leading Bioeconomy Power by 2035", the Minister said that Engineering Biology will be a foundational subject for the next phase of India's bioeconomy and it will be just like computer science drove the digital revolution.
