Dhaka, April 30 -- A group of lawyers has filed a writ petition challenging the legality of the ad hoc committee formed by dissolving the elected board of directors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and naming Tamim Iqbal its president.

The petition filed on Thursday also seeks a stay on the panel and a directive to declare it "illegal".

One of the petitioners, Supreme Court lawyer Golam Kibria who moved the High Court, said the National Sports Council's approval for the panel is "completely illegal" and a violation of the "Principle of Natural Justice".

Amid a dramatic shift, an 11-strong ad hoc committee of the BCB was formed on Apr 7.
