Upstream runoff swells Teesta, leading to fear of flooding in low-lying areas
Dhaka, June 23 -- The water of the Teesta River is on the rise due to persistent upstream runoff.
To manage the rising water level, authorities have already opened 44 sluice gates of the Teesta Barrage at Dalia Point in Nilphamari.
Residents of Chars and other low-lying areas by the Teesta are growing concerned about the possibility of flooding.
The local administration and the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) are maintaining around-the-clock monitoring to protect the lives and property of the people along the riverbanks.
