Dhaka, April 28 -- An unidentified man has been shot dead in Dhaka's New Market area.

The shooting occurred around 8pm on Tuesday in the Bottola area adjacent to the market, said New Market Police chief Md Ayub.

"We found a lot of blood at the scene. We do not yet know who the victim is. The injured person was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, and one of our teams has gone there," he said.

Hospital authorities confirmed that the man was brought to the emergency department by police around 8:30pm, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

His identity could not be confirmed immediately.

Medical sources said he had bullet injuries to the head and armpit.
