Dhaka, March 17 -- Two young boys have drowned in Meherpur's Gangni Upazila after falling into a pond near their homes.

Gangni Police Station chief Uttar Kumar said the toddlers died in the Upazila's Mailmari village around 1pm on Tuesday.

The victims have been identified as Adib Hossain, the 3-and-a-half-year-old son of Abbas Ali, and Yusub Ali, the 3-year-old son of Akash Ali.

Locals said the two boys were playing near the pond adjacent to their homes. At one stage, both plunged into the water and died.

Their families found their bodies floating on the pond and rushed them to Gangni Upazila Health Complex, where they were declared dead.
