Dhaka, March 6 -- Two motorcyclists have been killed after a freight train struck them while they were crossing a railway line in Gazipur.

The accident occurred around 9pm on Thursday at the rail crossing on Pubail Bazar Road along the Tongi-Ghorashal railway line, according to Station Master Abu Taher Mohammad Musa.

The victims were identified as Md Sajib Mia, 40, and Md Sheikh Habib, 35.

Habib was riding the motorcycle with Sajib as a passenger towards Pubail Bazar, the station master said, citing local residents.

Despite the crossing gate being closed, they lifted the barrier and attempted to cross the railway line when a Chattogram-bound container train hit the motorcycle, killing both riders at the scene, he added.
