Dhaka, March 27 -- Disillusionment with party leadership has driven three senior NCP figures in Nilphamari to defect to the Jamaat-e-Islami, raising allegations of corruption and financial impropriety at the district level.

On Friday morning, Al Faruq Abdul Latif, the member of parliament for Nilphamari-2 and assistant secretary of the district Jamaat, officially welcomed them with flowers at a ceremony in the district town.

The defecting leaders are NCP district unit Joint Convenor Khoyrat Hossain Shah and Joint Member Secretaries Md Shah Alam Chowdhury and Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

Speaking to bdnews24.com, Jahangir cited systemic corruption within the NCP's district high command as the primary reason for their resignation.
