Tensions in Motijheel as Islami Bank protesters, police face off
Dhaka, June 1 -- The air is tense in Motijheel's Dilkusha after police fired tear gas and used water cannons to try and disperse a protest by the group Conscious Customer Forum, which had formed a human chain outside the Islami Bank on the first day of the new chairman's tenure.
A large number of law enforcement personnel have been deployed to the area.
Water cannons have been stationed alongside police vans.
Police have taken up positions at both ends of the road in front of Islami Bank and blocked traffic.
The protesters have taken up positions in small groups on the road, caught between police on both ends.
Tension fills the air.
