Dhaka, March 28 -- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has visited the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) central office in Naya Paltan on his first visit to the headquarters since becoming the head of government.

The BNP chairman arrived at the office at 7pm to a rapturous welcome from thousands of party activists and supporters, who had begun gathering in the area since 2:30pm.

By late afternoon, the stretch of road outside the office was completely packed with crowds chanting celebratory slogans.

After entering the office premises, he exchanged greetings with party leaders and activists before holding discussions on organisational matters, said Atiqur Rahman, the prime minister's additional press secretary.
